The festival will comprise of a handful of features you might recognise – the sort of thing we screen at our monthly film club – and a short film programme for which we’re very excited to be taking submissions.

 

Adelaide Place is really enthusiastic about the role that art has to play in a local community, which is why we’ve put so much energy into our Community Hub, which includes A_Place Gallery and AP Film Club, and has previously hosted poetry workshops and open-mic nights. This festival, and specifically its short film programme, is another step in creating a space where local artists can share their work and where anyone is free to come and appreciate and discuss it.

Our theme for the festival is All I Want to Have: Films About Family so we’re especially keen to screen short films that share that focus, whether the family is biological, extended, or chosen. We want to champion recent work (completed since 2020) from Scottish voices and Glasgow-based filmmakers but we will consider films from further afield.

 

We’re accepting submissions for films between 5 and 20 minutes long and we’re not picky about genre or type of film – animations and documentaries welcome.

 

But since the film club and festival are under the banner (and roof) of Adelaide Place Baptist Church, there are a few restrictions we apply to the consideration of any screening. We won’t show any sex or nudity and will avoid films with too much violence, drug use, profanity or crudeness. All of these factors will be considered within the context of the film but ultimately, the decision to select or exclude films based on their content is at our discretion.

Our building is host to a whole variety of events, but it’s not strictly a cinema and we want to be transparent about that if you’re putting your film forward to be screened with us. We have a high quality AV set up, but it’s not quite cinema standard. We don’t have blackouts on our windows, but all shorts will be shown after sunset so the impact will be negligible.

 

There’s no cost for submission or to attend any of our screenings.

We have no plans to judge films or hand out awards or prizes.

 

We’re still working on a final schedule for the festival. We might have a short film showcase, we might pair shorts with one of our features, or we might do a bit of both. If your film is successful, we’ll let you know our plan for screening.
